Where do you start? You can start by saying, “Derry is Class.” We’re the best people in the world, fact. Visitors to the city love our friendliness, craic and loyalty to our city. In Derry we have a saying –  kick one and we all limp. That really sums us up.

The word Derry comes from Doire – the original name of the city, in Gaeilge, our native language. Doire means the place of the oak. The oak tree was held in high esteem by Celtic people because  of its strength and resilience, hence they made their settlements around oak groves.
